1. MapBasic application file.

A .mbx file is a compiled MapBasic application. The .mbx file is executed by MapInfo Professional, so it needs MapInfo Professional to be installed in order to be executed.

2. Eudora Mailbox file.

Eudora Mail uses a .mbx file to store emails. The contents of the .mbx file can be viewed using a text editor, but should not be edited using a text editor as this can lead to corruption of the mailbox file.

3. Outlook Express Mailbox file.

Earlier versions (v1-4) of Outlook Express used a .mbx file as the mailbox file, the file used to store emails in the inbox. Later versions of Outlook Express switched to using .dbx files.
