1. Windows component license file. If this license file is for an ocx component then there will normally be a corresponding .ocx file.

2. Generic file extension for a license file. The license file grants access to a specific application or to features of a specific application.

Depending on the software used to generate the license file, it may be text readable or it may be a binary file. In any event license files are generally constructed so that any changes to the license file will make it invalid and the corresponding application will stop working.
