MX Record

MX Record
Mail eXchange Record.

An MX record indicates which mail server will receive e-mails for an internet domain. Each domain can have more than one MX record, allowing e-mail to be routed to a backup mail server should the primary be unavailable. MX records are assigned a priority number and the one with the lowest number should be the one used, unless it is unavailable in which case the one with the next lowest priority will be used and so on.
