SPDIF

SPDIF
Sony/Philips Digital Interface. Often written as S/PDIF. It is a standard (developed by Sony and Philips) for the digital transfer of audio data. Transferring audio data between two devices digitally avoids the degradation of quality inherent in using digital to analogue devices.

Sound cards and CD drives normally have SPDIF connectors. Some TVs and other devices may also incorporate SPDIF connectors.
