How to enable SMTP send logging
To enable logging of out-going SMTP emails:
- Start Exchange Management Console
- Navigate to:
Microsoft Exchange > Microsoft Exchange On-Premises (server) > Organization Configuration > Hub Transport - Select the "Send Connectors" tab. This tab lists each of your send connectors - typically you may only have one, but some organisations will have more.
- Right click on the send connector and select "Properties".
- On the "General" tab change the "Protocol logging level" to "Verbose" (the default is "None").
Log files will now be generated on the server in the folder
C:\Program Files\Exchange
Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\ProtocolLog\SmtpSend
When you no longer require logging change the "Protocol logging level" back to "None".
These notes have been tested with Exchange Server 2010.
