How to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010
I was going to write up notes on how to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 but I found that someone has already written an excellent guide, so please refer to:
www.msexchangegeek.com/2010/01/30/rapid-transition-guide-from-exchange-2003-to-exchange-2010/
What the above doesn't really cover is how to migrate public folders, for that see:
http://careexchange.in/moving-public-folders-from-exchange-2003-to-exchange-2010/
Tips:
- If you are installing Exchange prior to SP3 on Windows Server 2012 using the GUI install (and not the command line version used in the above guide) then uncheck the option to "Automatically install Windows Server roles and features required for Exchange" as this doesn't work with Windows Server 2012.
- For additional tips on installing Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2012 see http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/installing-exchange-server-2010-sp2-on-windows-server-2012/
- If you encounter an error during the install process that the "mailbox server role did not install" then see http://exchangeserverpro.com/installing-exchange-server-2010-windows-server-8
These notes have been tested with Exchange Server 2010 on Windows Server 2012.
