NTBackup gives error ‘Insufficient disk space ...’
Symptom:
NTBackup (when run with arguments to backup specified drives) appears to start (in that it rewinds the tape) but then generates the error message:
Insufficient disk space. Verify that you
have access to the Working Directory
and there is disk space available.
Cause:
By ‘Working Directory’ NTBackup is actually referring to the temporary directory. The problem is caused because NTBackup cannot access or create a file in the temporary directory.
Possible Remedies:
- Check that the environment variable ‘TEMP’ is pointing to a valid directory. Check both the drive letter and directory name. Correct it if it is pointing to an invalid drive and/or directory.
- Check that there is available free disks space on the drive holding the temporary directory. Make space if necessary.
- Check that the process running the backup has access rights on the temporary directory.
These notes have been tested with Windows NT4.
