Backup failing - Error: Could not access portions of direction System State\COM+ Class Registration Database
Symptom:
When performing a backup (using Backup/NTBackup supplied with Windows XP) the backup fails and the following error is recorded in the backup log:
Error: Could not access portions of direction System State\COM+ Class Registration Database
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.
Possible Cause and Remedy:
The error may be caused by the COM+ System Application or one of if the components it interacts with. Try:
- Start (or restart) the service "COM+ System Application"
- Even if this appears to restart successfully, look in the event log at the Application Log. Resolve any errors generated when the "COM+ System Application" was restarted.
These notes have been tested with Windows XP and may apply to other versions as well.
