You do not have access to set License options

Symptom:

When trying to run License Manager on the file server, it refuses to run, popping up a message box with the error:

You do not have access to set License options

Cause:

The only time this has been observed was after someone had tinkered with the registry and changed the access permissions on part of the registry. Although it is possible that a non-administrator account is being used.

Remedy:

  1. Confirm that the account used is a member of the local administrators group. (Domain Admins normally are.)

  2. Check the permissions on the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ LicenseInfo’. The permissions on this key (and subsequent keys) should be set to:

Administrators Full Control
CREATOR OWNER Full Control
Everyone Read
Server Operators Special Access
  [/] Query Value
  [/] Set Value
  [/] Create Subkey
  [/] Enumerate Subkeys
  [/] Notify
  [ ] Create Link
  [/] Delete
  [ ] Write DAC
  [ ] Write Owner
  [/] Read Control
SYSTEM Full Control

These notes have been tested with Windows NT4 and may apply to later versions as well.
