Error 812: The connection was prevented because of a policy
configuration on your RAS/VPN server. Specifically the
authentication method used by the server to verify your username and
password may not match the authentication method configured in your
connection profile. Please contact the Administrator of the RAS
server and notify them of this error.
Cause:
This error indicates that the attempt to establish a VPN connection was rejected by the server.
Possible Remedies:
- Check the the user account has been granted permission to
connect via VPN, as this error will be generated if the account has
been set to deny access to VPN.
- On the Server run Active Directory users and Computers.
- Navigate down to the account in question and open up its properties.
- On the "Dial-in" tab check that under "Remote Access Permissions (Dial-in or VPN)" that "Allow Access" is selected. If it is not then change it and Apply the update.
These notes have been tested with clients running Windows 7 and with a VPN server on Windows 2003 Server, and they may also apply to other versions of Windows.
