ASP.NET application file.

ASP.NET only uses the .asax file extension for one file and that is the file global.asax. This file resides in the root of the ASP.NET application. It is a text file, and since it is an optional file not all ASP.NET (i.e. web) applications will have one. It defines functions which are executed on various application and session events.
