PADGen is a software package used by freeware and shareware developers, which generates a pad file (a .xml file) which contains information about a software package. The format that the pad (.xml) file is generated in allows other websites to pick up the information about the application in a standard format.

The .cml file is an XML file that contains stored information about the company, including name, address and contact information. The .cml file normally named after the name of the company. PADGen also uses .pml files to store information about each program.
