.conf file extension

- Configuration file. A text editable file that contains configuration
settings for an application.
The file extension .conf is a generic file extension, in that it can be used to refer to denote configuration settings for a wide range of applications. .conf files are more common on applications that originate on Unix than on Windows (where .ini files would commonly be used instead.)
The following is a far from exhaustive list of .conf files:
- awstats.site.conf
- AWStats configuration file for a web site.
- apache.conf
- Apache (web server) configuration file.
- netsvc.conf
- Name resolution services configuration file.
- nsswitch.conf
- Name service switch configuration file.
- rc.conf
- BSD system startup configuration file.
- vhosts.conf
- Apache (web server) virtual hosts configuration file.
