- 1. Pencil document file.
A .ep file is a saved Pencil document. Pencil is an open source sketching and prototyping tool, which can be used either as a standalone application or as a plug-in for FireFox.
The file itself is an XML file. Its format is intended to be open source (but at the time of writing had not been published).

- 2. Elmer output file.
Elmer describes itself as open source finite element software for multiphyscal problems. Elmer includes physical models of fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, electromagnetics, heat transfer and acoustics.

- 3. EasyPlot file.
EasyPlot is a scientific graphing application designed for curve and function plotting.
Each .ep file is an ASCII text file which contains commands for EasyPlot.
