.newsrc

Newsgroup source file. The .newsrc file contains a list of all newsgroups subscribed to, the status of each group and what messages have been read.

A .newsrc file is used by some newsgroup readers to keep track of newsgroups and articles. A .newsrc is a text file so can be opened, viewed and edited using a text editor. It is however recommended that edits are only made to the file using the newsgroup reader software which created it.

The following newsgroup readers are known to use .newsrc files (this is not an exhaustive list): nn, xnews.
