Device Driver
- Device Driver
- A device driver is software used to make computer peripherals function or
to allow interaction with a computer peripheral.
A device driver is is written specifically for a device to allow it to work with a particular operating system of the computer. If you upgrade your computer operating system, such as moving from Windows XP to Windows Vista then you will often require new driver software for each of your peripherals. However, depending on the peripheral, more modern versions of Windows may already come supplied with the necessary drivers.
A device driver is sometimes (and less frequently) referred to as a software driver or driver software.
