Silverlight application.

A .xap file is a compiled Silverlight application. It is a compressed archive containing all of the files and folders needed by a Silverlight application. It is possible to view the contents of the .xap file by renaming it to .zip and using a standard unzip tool.

.xap files (applications) can be generated using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 or later (Visual Studio 2008 requires a downloadable plug-in), or with Microsoft Expression Blend.

Note: "xap" is pronounced as "zap".
