1. Vector graphics file format.

.xar files can be edited using one of the graphics programs from Xara. A .xar file can also be modified or created using XarLib library which is a available as a free download from Xara.

2. Excel auto-recovery file. This file is a hidden file that is generally automatically by Excel to allow an edited spreadsheet to be recovered in the event of a crash. It is normally named with an arbitrary file name starting with a tilde (~nnnn.xar). This can be opened using Microsoft Excel.
